ISOLEMENT SPIRIT

Travel isn’t about discovering the world. It’s about discovering yourself.

Solo travel became the catalyst for becoming someone entirely different. This is that story, and an invitation to find your own.

A multiple-exposure self-portrait at Havasupai Falls — the first photograph of Isolement Spirit

THE ORIGIN · THE FIRST STAR

This is where Isolement Spirit began.

I have this strange habit. Sometimes I let nature decide things for me, something small, like watching two cars on the road and telling myself, if that one reaches first, this is going to happen. It sounds random, maybe even stupid, but for me it’s never been about logic. It’s about intention. Standing in front of this waterfall, I did the same thing. There was an idea that had been sitting in my head for months, starting this blog, and I knew something about myself: I don’t start things unless I feel it. So I made a deal. If I could capture the photo I had in my head, one frame, multiple versions of me, the version I was becoming and the ones I was slowly leaving behind, I would finally start. When I saw the result, it was close enough to what I’d imagined. Close enough to feel something. I’d finally proven it to myself. That I could believe I actually can. This photograph wasn’t the end of a trip. It was the beginning of everything.
